New Osteosarcoma Study

Limb-sparing surgery for osteosarcoma has been around for a long time, but the prolonged healing process made it not a suitable option for many hounds. However, there is now a study using a custom 3D printed implant to replace the removed affected bone, which allows rapid mobility and faster healing. This implant is designed specifically for your hound using advanced imaging.

This trial is for hounds residing in the Ft Collins CO area as close follow up is required at Colorado State Veterinary School.

This is not for every hound but if you have a young and otherwise healthy hound with a temperament that would tolerate many vet visits here is a chance to have the gold standard treatment (amputation and chemotherapy) without the amputation, and a hound up and walking soon after surgery.

Costs are mostly covered by the study. There is funding for 6 more participants. Work on this 3D implant was done by David Prawel, PhD. His brother Pete has a long association with Irish Wolfhounds and Dr. Prawel notes "I would love to help a wolfhound"
